When does the new Cloud Quest launch?

What's new compared to the old version?
Just about everything got an upgrade. The headlines: a rebuilt, richer 3D city with effortless navigation; AI-powered customer conversations at the heart of each assignment; revamped global tournaments; an all-new avatar editor; hands-on lab replay for everyone (including the free tier); and Builder Bonus rewards. Under the hood it's a full rebuild focused on smoother onboarding, clearer progression, and better performance. See the questions below for the details.
What is AI Dialogue?
Before you build, you meet a virtual customer in an AI-powered conversation — interview them, gather requirements, and get live feedback that builds the communication and problem-solving skills employers look for. It's the only AI in the experience; the labs, videos, and quizzes are still expert-built.
How have tournaments changed?
Tournaments are rebuilt for global online play. Tournament Points put veterans and newcomers on equal footing, you can spin up a custom tournament from any role, and organizations can run their own private events for teams and internal challenges.
Can I play with other people in real time?
Cloud Quest isn't a real-time multiplayer game — you explore the city and build your solutions at your own pace. You still compete with other players, just asynchronously through tournaments: everyone takes on the same challenges on their own schedule and the results meet on a shared leaderboard. Organizations can run their own tournaments for teams and internal challenges.
What's new with the avatar editor?
It's rebuilt on a new engine with far richer options and a quick, macro-first flow — pick a look fast, then fine-tune if you want. Your avatar's look keeps evolving as you progress through your role.
Is it easier to get around the city?
Much. Teleport anywhere on the map, a redesigned Quest Tracker keeps your next objective clear, and on-screen trail guidance leads the way — no more feeling lost in the world.
Is hands-on lab replay really free now?
Yes. Replaying the hands-on labs is now available to all learners, including the free tier — previously it was subscriber-only. Practice a solution as many times as you need.
What are Builder Bonuses?
A chance at premium avatar outfits at the end of select assignments, on top of your badge and in-game rewards. They're earned through gameplay only — no purchase, no real-money, no in-game-currency cost.
I already play Cloud Quest. Do I keep my progress?
Yes. Your badges, role progression, and completed assignments carry over automatically the first time you sign in. You'll recreate your avatar in the all-new editor, and there's a welcome-back gift waiting for coming back.
How much does it cost?
Two foundational roles — Cloud Practitioner and Generative AI Practitioner — are free with any AWS Skill Builder account. The other seven roles are included with a Skill Builder subscription (Individual or Team).
Do I need to install anything?
No. Cloud Quest runs right in your desktop browser (PC or Mac) on AWS Skill Builder — no download required.
Do I earn real AWS credentials?
Complete every assignment in a role to earn an official AWS badge, shareable on Credly and your Skills Profile.
What languages are supported?
Seven: English, Spanish (Latin America), French, Portuguese (Brazil), Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese.
Can I keep an AWS certification current?
Yes. The Cloud Practitioner Recertification path lets eligible learners maintain their certification in-game — the 12 Cloud Practitioner assignments plus one net-new, "Modernize a Cloud Architecture."
